Consulting
Consultations include, individual clinical consultation, group consultation for professional development, organizational consultation, experiential workshops, training, education and EMDRIA Approved EMDR Consultation for EMDR clinicians.
The focus of my consultative work is to support people to explore and cultivate a relationship with their work that is inspiring, balanced and as rewarding for the individual as for those whose lives they touch. I am particularly interested in supporting people to further develop their own self-care and in the prevention of vicarious trauma, secondary traumatic stress and compassion fatigue.
In the 1970's an Italian researcher, Maluchio said that our ability to reach out to others is directly proportionate to our ability to reach in. This fact influences the work I do as a consultant. The client/helper, employee/staff exchanges are not a one-way processes. When we work with others we are impacted by the material we are exposed to and by the experience we have while we engage with them. This can be both positive and/or stressful. The stresses and present life circumstances we bring to work can also directly relate to, parallel, challenge or support us at work. Part of the responsibility we have when we work directly with others, is to care for ourselves. Supporting our continued growth maximizes our potential personally, professionally, in our homes and communities. In doing the best of who we are radiates to those we serve.
I live and work in Halifax, Nova Scotia but travel to do workshops and consultations both within Canada and Internationally.
I am registered in Canada and in the province of Nova Scotia as a Social Worker in Private Practice. I am a Certified EMDR Therapist. I do some EAP work and am registered to provide services for extended health care plans, medical services, insurance companies and workman's compensation claims. I have the advanced level of training in CISM and a member of the Canadian Critical Incident Stress Foundation.
