Rhoda is a Registered Counselling Therapist (RCT) with the Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists (NSCCT). She holds a Master Degree in Counselling from Acadia University. She currently works as a school counsellor in addition to her RCT role in private therapy. Given her past work with the LGBTQ+ centre, she has gained insight into working with individuals in the LGBTQ+ community. These combined experiences allow her to work with a wide range of clients, each bringing unique perspectives and strengths.
Throughout her personal and professional journey, Rhoda has had the honour of walking alongside many individuals as they explore, heal, and grow. She carries deep gratitude for each person who chooses to share their story with her.
Her work is rooted in an integrative, client-centred approach that draws from several therapeutic modalities to best support everyone's unique needs and goals. Rhoda incorporates elements of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to help clients recognize and shift unhelpful thought patterns, Narrative Therapy to explore the stories people tell themselves and create space for new ones, and Person-Centred Therapy which empathy, authenticity, and unconditional positive regard. She additionally draws on Feminist Theory, which values collaboration and awareness of systematic and social influences on mental health, and Family Systems Theory, which considers the role of relationships and family dynamics in shaping individual’s experiences.
Through integrating these approaches, Rhoda can work flexibility and respectfully with people of all ages, identities, and backgrounds. Rhoda’s areas of specialties include working with the LGBTQ+ community, and survivors of both sexual trauma and narcissistic abuse. Whether someone is navigating personal challenges, relationship dynamics, depression, anxiety, relationship strains or broader life transitions, Rhoda aims to create a supportive space where they feel heard, empowered, and understood.
