Why Seek Trauma & EMDR Therapy?

Trauma can persist long after an experience has passed, shaping the nervous system, emotional regulation, relationships, and sense of safety. Whether trauma stems from a single event, ongoing stress, relational harm, or early developmental experiences, trauma-focused therapy — particularly EMDR — can help process what the nervous system has not yet been able to integrate.

You may benefit from Trauma & EMDR Therapy if you are:

Reliving distressing memories or flashbacks
Feeling emotionally numb, on edge, or unsafe
Struggling with sleep, trust, or self-worth
Experiencing dissociation or heightened reactivity

Who We Help

Every person’s trauma story is unique. Wholetherapy provides EMDR-specialized trauma treatment that honours each individual’s pace, identity, culture, and nervous system history, while grounding care in clinical depth and evidence-based practice.

Trauma-Focused, Culturally Responsive, Evidence-Aligned Care

We use evidence-aligned trauma treatment approaches, with EMDR as a core clinical specialty, supported by practices that emphasize nervous system regulation, attachment awareness, and cultural responsiveness. Treatment pathways are selected based on trauma history, readiness, and clinical need — not a one-size-fits-all model.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)

EMDR is grounded in the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model, which proposes that psychological distress arises when traumatic or overwhelming experiences are inadequately processed and stored in memory networks. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation (eye movements, taps, or tones) within a structured eight-phase protocol to help the brain integrate these memories in a more adaptive way.

Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR)

Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR) is a trauma-focused, neurobiological psychotherapy that targets shock and attachment trauma by working directly with brainstem-oriented responses that occur before emotional activation. DBR helps clients process traumatic experiences by attending to the body’s earliest orienting responses—such as head, neck, and eye movements—allowing the nervous system to complete interrupted defensive sequences and resolve trauma at its source.

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is a brief, trauma-focused psychotherapy that uses eye movements and imagery techniques to help individuals resolve distressing memories and symptoms without prolonged exposure or detailed verbal processing.

Brainspotting

Brainspotting is a therapeutic approach that identifies specific eye positions (“brainspots”) linked to unprocessed trauma, allowing the brain and nervous system to naturally process and release emotional and physiological distress.

R-TEP (Recent Traumatic Episode Protocol)

R-TEP is an EMDR early-intervention protocol that helps individuals process recent traumatic events before they become entrenched, reducing the risk of PTSD and long-term distress.
